Theme in 1984

A theme in 1984 is authority it vital, but it has its limits. This theme exists because The Party had too much power over the people of Oceania and as a result, many had to secretly rebel against them to be happy. For example, The Party did not allow men and women to have intimate relationships. Winston and Julia broke this rule, not only because they liked each other, but because it is in human nature to love someone. This is where The Party's authority becomes abused and does not benefit the people. When people aren't happy with their leaders, that's when you know authority has crossed their limit. Another example would be how regular party member have to be watched by telescreens almost all the time. It is understandable to be watched at work, but when you're at home its an invasion of privacy. If people aren't doing anything wrong, the authority should let people have their privacy. In society it is very important to have a sense of authority, however, there are boundaries that shall never be crossed.
